Adoption Tails #9: Vinnie & Khaleesi
Welcome to the ninth edition of Adoption Tails, our blog series that highlights YOUR pet’s story!
Today we have a heartwarming brother-and-sister story, all about Vinnie & Khaleesi. Sit back, relax, and get ready to hear their “tail,” as told by their cat mom, Christina.
When did you adopt Vinnie and Khaleesi?
We adopted Vinnie in August 2014, and we adopted Khaleesi in March 2015.
How old were Vinnie and Khaleesi when you adopted them, and how old are they now?
Vinnie is now five years old; he was approximately five months old when we adopted him. Khaleesi was one and she is now five.
What motivated you to adopt?
We adopted Vinnie Barbarino and Freddie “Boom Boom” Washington in August 2014. They were brothers and were inseparable. Freddie developed FIP and he passed away a month later on September 6th. Vinnie was devastated and depressed. We decided to adopt Khaleesi so Vinnie could have a companion again.
Did you have pets previously?
Yes, we’ve both had pets previously.
How did you hear about/decide to adopt from Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue Society?
We first heard about Karma Cat when we were in the North Brunswick PetSmart shopping. The staff at Karma Cat were so caring and organized when we applied to adopt Vinnie and Freddie. Since we had such a great experience we didn’t look anywhere else to adopt Khaleesi.
Describe when you first met Vinnie and Khaleesi and how you knew they were the right pets for you.
My husband, Dane, and I were in PetSmart to get his leopard gecko crickets when Dane locked eyes with Vinnie and he knew he was the cat for him. It was destiny.
Khaleesi kissed me on the cheek when I held her and I knew she was the “one.”
Describe bringing Vinnie and Khaleesi home – how did the adjustment period go?
We were fortunate that Vinnie and Khaleesi (besides a hiss here and there) got along so well so quickly. Khaleesi took to her new home quickly.
At first, Vinnie was scared of Khaleesi, but within a week or so became more confident and they began sitting near each other. Within a month they were playing together and Vinnie was letting Khaleesi groom him.
If applicable, describe any personality/behavior changes from since you brought your pets home, to now.
Vinnie and my husband, Dane, are best friends. He has gone from a rambunctious kitten to a loving, sensitive cat.
Khaleesi has become more of a cuddly cat. Most nights she lays on my chest while I’m on the couch watching TV and purrs and purrs.
How would you describe Vinnie’s and Khaleesi’s personalities?
Vinnie is the most kind, caring, and sensitive cat I’ve ever met. He will sit on your lap and knead you for a long time!
Khaleesi has changed our lives in ways we couldn’t imagine. She has become such a cuddly cat, but is also sassy and full of personality. She really is the “Queen” of the household. She loves to kiss you and always greets you at the door (visitors, too!).
Please describe any silly/quirky traits Vinnie and Khaleesi have.
Vinnie doesn’t meow, he coos. Despite being sensitive, he enjoys meeting new people, and loves belly rubs!
Khaleesi always reminds you when it’s time for her breakfast or wet meatz!
Please provide any additional stories or information that you’d like to tell us about Vinnie and Khaleesi.
I honestly can’t imagine my life without them. They have made our little family complete. Now, since we adopted Khaleesi, Vinnie has a friend again and it brings us so much joy. My husband and I cannot thank Karma Cat enough for being so organized and caring. You’ve helped find us our fur babies their forever home!
