Adoption Tails #16: Stuart
Welcome to the 16th edition of Adoption Tails, our blog series that highlights YOUR pet’s story!
In today’s Adoption Tail, we explore the adoption story of Stuart (formerly known as Pierce Brosnan). This adorable panther was adopted by his cat dad, Neil, in early March. Read on to learn more about how these two guys have bonded while quarantining together the last few months.
When did you adopt Stuart?
March 2020.
How old was Stuart when you adopted him, and how old is he now?
He was three when I got him but he just turned four.
What motivated you to adopt?
I am a big advocate of adopting animals rather than buying. There are so many animals that need a home.
Did you have pets previously?
I have had cats for years, my most recent one past away due to old age/kidney issues.
How did you hear about/decide to adopt from Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue Society?
I heard about Karma Cat through PetFinder.
Describe when you first met Stuart and how you knew he was the right pet for you.
When I first met Stu, he was huddled in the corner of his living space where all I could see were two yellow eyes staring back at me. He looked so scared but was so sweet when I reached out to pet him. I was told about his previous life and how he lived in a not so good shelter for years before Karma Cat and Zen Dog rescued him. With all of this I knew I wanted to give him a good home.
Describe bringing Stuart home – how did the adjustment period go?
When I first brought Stu home, it took him a few hours to leave the cage. When he finally did, he made his home under the couch where he did not leave for weeks. I knew he was OK though because at night he would come out and use the litter box, eat, and drink water. After about two weeks he started venturing out from under the couch and began exploring.
If applicable, describe any personality/behavior changes from since you brought Stuart home, to now.
Stu has changed so much you would never have known it was the same cat. He has come out of his shell completely, always ready to play and has become a vocal cat as well. One minute he is lounging in the sun, then next he is going crazy playing with a toy running around my apartment.
How would you describe Stuart’s personality?
I would describe him as an adult kitten. He is four years old but you can tell he has not been exposed to much of the world outside of the shelter. He is curious of everything and can make a toy out of anything. But he is still very skittish when it comes to different sounds or anything new in the apartment.
Please describe any silly/quirky traits Stuart has.
Stu can be pretty clumsy at times. He will sometimes be rolling around on the couch and fall right off and hit the floor. Or when he is playing, I have seen him run so fast and try to stop but end up sliding and hitting anything in his path.
Please provide any additional stories or information that you’d like to tell us about Stuart and/or his adoption experience.
I couldn’t be any happier with my adopted cat, and I got him at the perfect time too. A few weeks into my adopting him I started working from home because of the quarantine, and it has been a great bonding experience for him and I. I live alone so it’s been very helpful having a companion during this time. Also, I wanted to thank everyone at Karma Cat and Zen Dog. Everyone there was so nice and extremely helpful during the adoption process. I could tell they really care about the animals they help and I would recommend them to anyone that is looking to adopt!
