Adoption Tails #19: Lacey
Welcome to the 19th edition of Adoption Tails, our blog series that highlights YOUR pet’s story!
In today’s Adoption Tail, learn about how Lacey, a sweet calico, found her forever family in September of 2019. These days, Lacey is enjoying the good life in her forever home, where she loves to spend time with her humans, watch YouTube, and plunk her cat toys into her water bowl. Enjoy!
When did you adopt Lacey?
We adopted Lacey in September 2019.
How old was Lacey when you adopted her, and how old is she now?
She was 1.5 years old, and now she is almost 2.5 years old.
What motivated you to adopt?
Our dog, Tara, is elderly and has trouble walking. She is alone during the day and I felt she needed a companion. Plus, I missed the excitement of having a young pet running around. Our cat, Alex, passed away 10 years ago and I missed having a cat in our house.
Did you have pets previously?
We have had cats, dogs, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, hermit crabs, and a crayfish. There has never been a point where we didn’t have a pet.
How did you hear about/decide to adopt from Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue Society?
We had gone to PetSmart looking for the right cat to adopt. We met this wonderful lady from Karma Cat + Zen Dog while we were looking.
Describe when you first met Lacey and how you knew she was the right pet for you.
Lacey had just been brought into the store. We took one look at her and we were in love! Love at first sight and we knew she was going to be ours.
Describe bringing Lacey home – how did the adjustment period go?
Lacey was scared and shy for the first day. We set her up in my daughter‘s room. She hid the first day but started running and jumping around the room once we were asleep. By the next day, she was sleeping with my daughter and following her around. She adjusted quickly to our house, dog, and family, and now she is just one of us.
If applicable, describe any personality/behavior changes from since you brought Lacey home, to now.
Lacey is no longer shy. She asserts her personality and likes to get her way. She gets mad when my daughter leaves the house and is most happy when everyone is home.
How would you describe Lacey’s personality?
Lacey is confident, fun-loving, and a free spirit.
Please describe any silly/quirky traits Lacey has.
Lacey loves technology. She actually tries to pick up cell phones with both paws, loves computer keyboards, and hearing cats meow on YouTube. Lacey also loves drowning toy mice in her water bowl. We have to buy tons of mice. Every day there is one in the water bowl.
Please provide any additional stories or information that you’d like to tell us about Lacey and/or her adoption experience.
Our adoption experience was excellent. Our vet was called for reference and we got to take Lacey home the same day!
