2010: The Year it all Began

What do you do when you realize there is a momma cat and five babies living under a wood pile in the early spring Jersey weather? … you bring them into your garage and then into your home …

Karma with her babies, the Meepers:

The Yin and Yang of the Meepers (the calico, Mimi, was in true calico form for this picture – off on her own!)

What do you do when you realize there are 18 ferals being fed but not managed? … you gather resources and get them all vaccinated and sterilized and placed back in their familiar territory …

What do you do when people call you because they rescued kittens from a hard life outside? … you take them in, get them vet care and find them loving forever homes …

And, apparently, if you are crazy enough, you start an organization so that you can keep saving animals.

It has been so worth all the effort! Our two adoption centers (North Brunswick Petsmart and Edgebrook in East Brunswick) have provided temporary homes for many cats and kittens this year. Our dedicated foster homes provide even more homes and special care for those that need it. We were able to take in four (very) adult cats when their owner passed away. Our semi-blind kitty was adopted into an amazing home. We have helped people trap-neuter-return feral cats in their communities (preventing future litters of kittens). We cried over the cats we could not save – they will always be in our hearts. This year has been stressful and amazing.

Thank you to everyone that has supported us this year – donors, volunteers, mentors, friends and family. Without all of you, we could not have placed 67 animals in loving forever homes.

Not a bad start! And we’re looking forward to much bigger numbers in 2011!
