Welcome to the tenth edition of Adoption Tails, our blog series that highlights YOUR pet’s story!
Today we are telling the tale of a sweet tabby named Zoe (formerly named Carla). This little girl has transformed from a shy kitten to a lovey-dovey cat, as her dad, Lawrence, explains below.Zoe and her brother, Miko.
When did you adopt Zoe?
August 30, 2015.
How old was Zoe when you adopted her, and how old is she now?
Zoe was 4 months old when we adopted her and she is now 4-and-a-half years old.
What motivated you to adopt?
Our other adopted cat, Miko, had too much cat energy that we just couldn’t match so we decided to get him a feline companion.
Did you have pets previously?
We had gotten Miko (an orange and white tabby) the year prior from St. Hubert’s.
Crossing her paws, so proper!
How did you hear about/decide to adopt from Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue Society?
We were aware that Karma Cat + Zen Dog operated out of PetSmart in North Brunswick as we were living in the area.
Describe when you first met Zoe and how you knew she was the right pet for you.
Zoe was about to get adopted but I guess they decided to not move forward with the adoption. So my wife (girlfriend at the time) and I asked if we could get some one-on-one time with her.
As soon as she sat on my lap I knew she was the one.
Describe bringing Zoe home – how did the adjustment period go?
Our cat Miko was very confused and curious of the little “newcomer” but eventually did warm up to her.
If applicable, describe any personality/behavior changes from since you brought Zoe home, to now.
Zoe went from skittish to absolute lovey. She still gets scared when there are a lot of people in the house but that’s nothing new.
Always sitting with her legs in tripod position.
How would you describe Zoe’s personality?
Zoe is pretty goofy and has become very accepting of snuggles and cuddles and is always up for a nice warm lap or being carried like a baby.
Please describe any silly/quirky traits Zoe has.
Zoe doesn’t just eat dry food like a normal cat from the bowl. She will paw at a single piece of dry food, drag it out of the bowl onto the floor, and eat them one at a time.
When sitting in a chair or perch, she will extend her legs out like a tripod.
Also, she likes to cross her front paws and sit like a proper lady.

Please provide any additional stories or information that you’d like to tell us about Zoe.
Our adoption experience was very comfortable and effortless. We have gotten to meet the volunteers and attend several events and working with Karma Cat + Zen Dog has been nothing short of amazing.
