The Top 10 Pet Toxins to Avoid

Most of us know to keep household cleaners and certain foods, like chocolate, away from our pets. But what about other, lesser known pet toxins? Today on the blog we have for you a list of the top 10 toxins of 2018, from the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, which received nearly 214,000 cases of potential poisonings in 2018 alone!

In a nutshell, the top toxins are categorized as below:

  2. Human Prescription Medications
  3. Food
  4. Chocolate
  5. Veterinary Products
  6. Household Items
  7. Rodenticide
  8. Insecticide
  9. Plants
  10. Garden Products

A Few More Pet Toxins to Remember…

In addition to the toxins listed in the above infographic, some other ones to make sure to avoid are highlighted below:

  • Heavy fats, like skin and fried foods
  • Smoked meats (cats)
  • No bones (cats), and no cooked, poultry, or pork bones for dogs
  • Caffeinated drinks
  • Macadamia (and other) nuts
  • And more! (When in doubt, research and ask your vet!)
